Catastrophic Injuries • Tractor Trailer Accident Injuries • Personal Bankruptcies

You or a loved one has been severely injured or is facing a financial crisis that you don't know how to handle. Maybe both.

You need help, not "legalese" or state law small-print.
Get personal attention and straight talk here. I work for you.

When you are severely injured or are considering bankruptcy, your life has been turned upside down. Financial, physical, and emotional losses have probably left you wondering who to trust. Nevertheless, you know you need to take action to regain control, begin to heal and begin to rebuild.

It can be difficult to find an attorney who understands the the legal system and who also really wants to know what you’re going through. A big law firm is too impersonal. The cookie-cutter legal approach isn’t right for everyone—you’re just another client among hundreds. You may be wondering, “Does this law firm care about me? Are they really on my side?”

I’m Attorney Paul B. Sherr, and I‘ve been working with men and women affected by severe injuries and bankruptcy in upstate New York and Western Massachusetts for over 15 years. I want to hear what happened to you and create a plan to improve your circumstances. I can meet you at an office in the Capital District of New York or in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, but if necessary I can also travel to meet you in your home. I’m licensed in New York and Massachusetts, and I usually practice in Upstate New York and Western Massachusetts. If you are outside of my immediate area but have landed on my site needing help, give a call. Chances are I can refer you to some excellent help in your area.

Severe Injury Law

If you or a loved one has suffered some sort of severe or catastrophic injury due to someone else’s negligence or recklessness, you need help. Your insurance company will help up to a point, but they have the old “bottom line” to worry about, so they are only partly on your side. The negligent person’s insurance company, if left to their own devices, will pay as little as possible (nothing if they can get away with it). The police or other authorities will be helpful, but they are “just doing their job,” and their job is not to be your advocate in what will be a difficult period for you and your family. Your injury may have been due to:

  • a faulty or toxic product,
  • a serious traffic incident,
  • a hazardous condition in a private or public place,
  • a negligent medical professional (medical malpractice), or
  • some other negligence that you would never have imagined.

It’s a dangerous world out there. Let’s talk about what happened, and what is now on your plate. Chances are I have seen a case like yours before. I can guide and educate you as to what remedies may be available and how best to make your claims. If a lawsuit is called for, I will tell you that and can guide you through the process. I work for you, and no one else.

Tractor-Trailer and Related Industrial Injuries

Before I was a lawyer, I spent about 12 years as a trucker and mechanic. I started out driving small trucks on a firewood crew, but quickly graduated into tractor trailers, and was soon driving all over the United States. I have logged countless miles and been in more types of industrial plants and agricultural operations than I care to remember. Trucks. I have repaired them, inspected them, driven them, loaded them, unloaded them, been in wrecks with them, seen what fails with them and how it fails, and seen what damage they can cause when they are out of control. I have been the overtired driver, the inexperienced driver, the experienced driver, and the driver that has made the uncomfortable decision to call out his boss on bad safety practices. I have been caught between a dispatcher telling me to go-go-go and a logbook that says I need a week off.

As a result, I have a unique perspective on injuries and accidents caused by tractor trailers. I know the questions to ask. I know when something is suspicious. I have been privileged as a lawyer to handle tractor trailer and other truck injury cases. I seek them out. Some of the cases have been about cars slammed by big trucks. Some of the cases have been about major property damage caused by tractor trailers. Some of the cases have been on behalf of truckers injured on the job, whether at a warehouse or in a trailer. On the job cases often are complicated due to the workers' compensation laws, but I’d like to discuss your case and see what might be done. If you have suffered an injury due to anything related to trucks, the trucking industry generally, or any industrial factors, I would like to discuss your matter. Put my unique background to work. For you.

Personal Bankruptcy Law

If you or a loved one is facing a financial crisis, you probably feel that you are no longer in control, and that you are “along for the ride” going somewhere you don’t want to go. Maybe you have looked at your bankbook and your bills for months and been having the feeling you get when your car is sliding on ice. You need to regain control, and depending upon your circumstances, regaining control will require some tough decisions.

The first step is to educate yourself about your choices. You will need to speak with a lawyer about the possibility of a bankruptcy. Bankruptcy is not right for everyone, but is an excellent tool for regaining control. It can be used to stop foreclosures, and to stop endless collection calls and lawsuits that you have no other way to deal with. Cut through the myths and rumors and speak with me.

If a bankruptcy is not right for you, I will tell you so and suggest another alternative. Don’t be fooled: a bankruptcy does not mean that you are unethical or that your credit is permanently destroyed. Life is an ongoing series of course corrections, and bankruptcy may simply be a course correction you need to take in order to keep moving ahead. If bankruptcy is right for you, there will be documents that need to be filled out, filing dates, fees, procedures, and hearing dates. The process can be daunting, especially if you feel as if the walls are closing in already. But it is said that the best way to survive walking through a minefield is to follow someone and step in their footsteps.

As an experienced bankruptcy lawyer, I know where the mines are, and I can lead you through the process. Teach me about your financial situation, and I will help you get it back under control. Then you can think about prosperity for a change!
